Breede River

The Breede River is one of the most pristine and bountiful river estuaries in South Africa, with an exciting list of target species including the spotted grunter, leervis, kob, elf, tuna and katonkel.

The serenity of the Breede River is complimented by a variety of flyfishing opportunities and conditions that will challenge your fishing skills.

For three days of fishing – or more, if arranged in advance – wade through the shallows of the numerous mudflats, tidal channels, and deep drop-offs of the Breede River to target elusive spotted grunter, hunt bait smashing leeries and fish for the predatory kob. If the conditions are right guests have the option to head out of the river mouth to target a variety of inshore species on fly.

Our 19ft Fusion boat is customised for fly fishing with a casting platform and lean bar. These allow guests of all skills levels to target more water and fish throughout the estuary. Our Upstream Adventures boat can accommodate up to four fishing guests per trip supported by an experienced guide.

After the last spotted grunter has been released back into the murky waters of the Breede River, guests will have a choice of self-catering accommodation to rest along the Infanta side of the river. Alternatively, guests can arrange their own accommodation on the Witsands or Infanta sides of the estuary for the duration of the down the basics getaway honouring the humble lifestyle of flyfishing on the Breede.
